About me...
Welcome to BloominGael's Photography. I offer studio and on-location photography and specialize in costumed or themed photography. I try to add a twist to some of my photos with Photoshop or by using different backdrops. My digital backdrops are either photos of places I have visited or lived or creations I have made (most often from bits and pieces of things from Hobby Lobby). I love to use backlit glass as a backdrop or Photoshopped water.

- Most of all, I was inspired by my Irish childhood. I grew up in Derry City in northern Ireland in the 1970s. I lived in a town dark with turmoil during "The Troubles" on the one hand, and in a country of vibrant colors on the other. Out my front door were patrolling British soldiers with their tanks and guns, and out the back door were farms bordered with gorse and heather and blackberries (not to mention sheep).
- A later inspiration arose from my love of the outdoors. I have fished in several countries and many states since the age of 4 (that would make 36 years of fishing around the world), which led to my love of nature and natural lighting.
- Another influence is science fiction and fantasy, which shows up in some of my "people" photos. Much of this started with my Irish upbringing and being surrounded by ancient myths and legends.
- With people photography, I am also influenced by Pre-Raphaelite art. I know that isn't photography, but it shows a simple and natural style of posing, and the style mixes well with some of my fantasy/mythology influences.
- I am also influenced by music...music with a certain emotiveness. In particular, traditional Irish music by Susan McKeown and Enya (her more traditional-influenced material), Irish "rebel" music (as most in the US would probably refer to it) by the Dubliners and The Pogues, among others, and even by the Cowboy Junkies (though not Irish by any means, they emote very strong feelings and imagery).
- I imagine I have also been influenced by the many places I've lived, and the many cultures I have experienced, especially London, England, and New York City, but also Puerto Rico and Morocco. These influences are not quite as prominent, however.
